Curriculum vita (CV OR VITAE) and resumes both have similar purpose as marketing documents that provide key information about your skills, experiences, education, and personal qualities that show you as the ideal candidate. Where a resume and curriculum vitae differ is in their use, format and length. CV tends to provide a great detail about academic and research experiences, while resume tends towards brevity. CV needs completeness.
A resume is a formal summary of your education, experience and skills. It should be simple, logical and brief. A curriculum vita is a comprehensive, biographical statements emphasing your professional qualifications and activities. In general, curriculum vita are two or more pages in length. An advantage to the CV format is the significant freedom to choose the headings and categories for your information and the strength reflected in their arrangement.
The first is to priorities and list the most relevant academic, research, volunteer, or work history experience first within the curriculum vita. The second is to include an objective and summary qualifications sections at the top of each CV. The third is to incorporate many of the strategies in the CV writing techniques. Preparing effective CV present a unique challenge due to length, this can make them boring and result in important data being buried or lost in such a long document.
