VITILIGO; WHAT IS IT?

VITILIGO; WHAT IS IT?

Vitiligo, also called leukoderma, is triggered by the loss of pigment-producing cells in the skin. This result in the formation of white spots and patches on the skin. With some patients the condition never progresses beyond the appearance of one patch. With others, however, it spreads over the body quickly. Still others may suffer a slower form of vitiligo that continues to spread over many years. Vitiligo is neither physically painful nor contagious.
Not all cases of vitiligo may be as obvious as too alarming, for it is mostly noticeable on dark-skinned people. But there are many people afflicted to one degree or another. Statistics show that between 1 and 2 percent of world population maybe affected. Vitiligo knows no racial boundaries and affects men and women equally. It cause is still unknown.
While there is no sure cure for vitiligo, there are many ways of dealing with it. For instance, in light-skinned patients, the condition is more evident when the unaffected skin is suntanned. Hence, avoiding exposure to the sun can make the condition less noticeable. With dark-skinned people, special cosmetics can help disguises the contrasts in skin colour. Some patients have responded well to a process known as repigmentation. This treatment involves many months of medication and the use of special ultra-violet equipment. In some cases this treatment has caused normal colour to return to parts of the afflicted skin. Other patients choose depigmentation. The goal of this treatment is to even out the skin tone by destroying the remaining pigment-producing cells with the use of medication.
Vitiligo can cause emotional distress to those afflicted, especially when it spread to the face. In one recent study a woman afflicted by vitiligo explains, “two children looked at me and ran away screaming. Others are hesitant to speak with me, thinking that I may have a contagious disease or that I have been cursed”. People cannot catch vitiligo by touch or through the air.

6 FOOD SAFETY MEASURES;

6 FOOD SAFETY MEASURES;
Is eating dangerous? Recent statistics might lead you to conclude that it is. According to the world health organization (WHO), about 130 million people in the European Union are affected by food borne disease each year. However there are number of ways to help protect your food from diseases. These steps can be adopted below…..
1. Wash.
Be sure to wash your hands in hot soapy water before preparing each dish. Always wash after using the bathroom, dealing with a baby’ or child’s hygienic needs or handling any animal, including household pets. Wash any utensils, cutting boards, and countertops with hot soapy water after preparing each dish- especially after handling raw meat, poultry, or sea food.
2. Cook thoroughly.
It is also advice you cook your food thoroughly. If the internal heat of food exceeds 70 degrees Celsius, even briefly, almost all bacteria, viruses, and parasites will be killed. Poultry should be cooked even more than that, to say 80 degree Celsius. Reheated food should be brought to a temperature of 75 degree Celsius, or it should be hot and steaming. Avoid eating poultry that is still pink inside, eggs with runny yolks or whites, or fish that is not yet opaque and that you cannot readily flake apart with a fork.
3. Keep food separate.
It is important you keep raw meat, poultry, or sea food separate from other food at times-when shopping for it, storing it, and preparing it. Do not let the juices flow or dip onto each other or onto other foods. Also, never put cooked food onto a dish that formerly held raw meat, fish, or poultry, unless that dish has been thoroughly washed with hot soapy water.
4. Store and chilled food properly.
The refrigerator can inhibit the growth of dangerous bacteria, but the temperature should be 4 degree Celsius. The freezer should be -17 degree Celsius. Put perishable food items away within two hours. If the setting out food before the meal, cover all dishes to keep flies away.
5. be cautious when dinning out.
By one estimate, from about 60 to 80 percent of the cases of food borne diseases in some developed lands originate in meals that are cooked and brought outside the home. So it is wise you become cautious and careful when eating outside. Make sure the restaurant you visit satisfies the health standards required by law. Order meat well-cooked. When it comes to take out food, make sure to eat it within two hours of the time you buy it. If more time elapses, reheat the food to a temperature of 75 degree Celsius.
6. Throw out questionable food.
If you are in doubt as to whether some food item is good or spoiled, err on the side of safety and throw out. Granted, it is unwise to waste food. Still, getting sick from bad food may prove even more costly.

8 WAYS TO ENHANCE LEARNING

8 WAYS TO ENHANCE LEARNING
To most high school and college students, learning has been seen as one obstacle too difficult to climb. They see learning as a rigorous task and diverse means to overcome these predicaments. However, learning can be evergreen as the saying goes,” learning never ends”! Find below are eight possible ways to enhance your learning and make it more enjoyable.
1. Be interested.
Be absorbed in something and you more readily learn it. Research have shown that when
People study because they enjoy it, “their learning will be deeper, richer, and longer lasting. They are also more persistent, more creative, and more eager to do challenging work”.
2. Relate learning to life.
It is best you always relate your everyday learning to events in your life. When there is a direct connection between classroom learning and your practical experience, then there will be an electrical spark that will turn on the light of understanding.
3. Try to comprehend.
Try your best always to better comprehend things faster. When people try to understand something, they stimulate both their thinking ability and their memory. Rote learning has its place, but it is no substitute for comprehension. “With all that you acquire, acquire understanding. Highly esteem it, and it will exalt you,” says proverb4:7-8.
4. Concentrate.
Concentration is at the very heart of learning. Thus, it is so important that it has been called a fundamental perquisite of intelligence and has even been equated with intelligent itself. Concentration can be taught. A key is to start with brief periods of study and then lengthen them incrementally.
5. Paraphrase.
Most people often confuse self with these words, but they tend to forget that the most competent students are the ones who are the most proficient paraphrases. Paraphrasing reduces information into smaller, manageable chunks which are easier to remember. Good note takers exploit this principle by not taking notes verbatim.
6. Associate.
Memories can be link to the kind of association one finds self. In short recall is enhanced when you clearly associate new things with what you already know. The more associations you make, the better the recall.
7. Visualize
Try as best you can as a learn to always visualized. Vivid images last. Therefore, visualized material where possible. Mnemonic experts use this technique, often creating exaggerated or humorous mental pictures as a memory aid.
8. Review.
It is always advice you review most of your daily activities for easy comprehension. Within 24 hours we can forget up to 80 percent of what we studied. By doing a brief review after a study session, then again a day, a week, a month, and even six months later, we vastly improve our recall, even raising it to near 100 percent.

EXAMINATION SUCCESS

EXAMINATION; PREPARATION AND SUCCESS.

You are now at examinations’ door. Your success is my deepest concern and earnest prayer. This article will guide you towards the steps, preparations and other process to achieve absolute success in your forth coming examination. I spiritually share your with you all the burdens, tensions, anxieties, pressures, uncertainties, as well as the hopes and hidden joys of this decisive period.
You know very well that we cannot simply by reflex action tune the knob to the success channel, and then watch success emerge in its gorgeous regalia and splendour. Success is strenuously earned. Success inevitably demands concerted efforts, but the bulk of which rests on your shoulders.
In addition to my sincere prayer for your health and the unity of your mind and body in this critical period and after, here are some tips for your success. Please read them. Reflect on them. Act on them. Live on them. Then you will safely pull through.
A. PREPARATIONS FOR EXAMINATION
According to William A.ward, “men never plan to be failures; they simply plan to be successful”. In your own case, I ‘m quite sure that all your plans and preparations are geared towards success. Again, no one will doubt it, that your entire whole person is motioned towards the route to success. But as bondixiline says, “the road to success is dotted with many tempting parking spaces”. Where proper care and guidance are not taken, one filled with noble intention and determination to succeed may fall into any of the ‘tempting parking space”. In effect, all the efforts will be vitiated. That you may completely avoid this sorrowful consequence, it is necessary that you prepare very well for your examinations. How will you do this? The following recipes are the answer. And they are my expectations of you:
1. It is hope that you have updated and completed your notes, and that you have properly arranged your files, putting each note to the appropriate file.
2. By now you might have spotted out some possible examination questions and have taken pains to answer them intelligently, and given to your colleagues to correct.
3. I hope you have committed important passages (irrespective of the volume), quotations, formulas, and mnemonics to your memory. Please rehearse and demonstrate them frequently.
4. Let no idea remain vague in your mind. Frequently consult your reference books, dictionaries, encyclopedias.
5. Appreciate the fact that the authors of your books sacrificed time, energy, company, and pleasure etc before they could produce their books. You, who now attempt to read, understand and interpret the texts may double the sacrifices of the authors. Don’t shirt this sacrifice. Remember the words of Ben Johnson, “he who cares to write a must living line, must sweat”.
6. Remember again that serious academic work is compatible neither with flooded stomach nor with an empty one. But I must remind you in the words of umeayo v. umeayo that, “fasting quickens your mental processes and sharpens all the senses”. Let me add that physical exercise do the same in addition to keeping you healthy. But play while you play, work while you work.
7. In the course of your preparations for your examinations, you need not assume that the top position had already been assumed to some gifted or favoured colleagues of yours. Hence, there is no point straining yourself. But understand fully that success is a matter not so much of talent as of concentration and perseverance. With F.N. Njoku, I ask you to remember that, “successful people are not gifted, they just worked hard and then succeed on purpose”. Please, do not be of the poor and lazy group who despair and fail before going in for their examinations. Be optimistic and goal-oriented. If you live the foregoing, you will be best equipped to face the questions. However a few other things need to be said and done.
B.CONDUCT DURING YOUR EXAMINATION
1. There would be no need to burn the midnight oil if you had conscientiously attended the lectures and utilized every bit of the preparation period. Your health is primary.
2. You shall be seated and relaxed in the examination hall. The examiners shall not wait for you nor should you race to the hall in the nick of time.
3. In the course of your examinations, be not discouraged by any mistakes, unanswered compulsory questions, and overlooked sub-sections. Whichever may be your lot here, with Paul, I say to you, “forget the past and strain ahead for what is still to come, (phil.3:13).
C.GOD AND YOUR EXAMINATION
All wisdom, knowledge, intelligence and all good things comes from God alone. In him alone resides all true success. Pray to him then to bring your path and purpose to their end. God gives us brains, reason, intellect and will-power; we must seek knowledge and acquire it. Therefore, always energize and motivate yourself with this assurance of Paul: I can do all things with the help of him, who strengthens me, (phil.4:13).
D.ASSURED SUCCESS
Having obediently made the necessary sacrifices, adequate preparations demand you comport yourself with honesty, dedication and hope during your examination with all union in God. Your success will safely fly from the realm of wishes to the world of reality. Then we will jubilantly convene and celebrate with you.

UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY; FUNCTIONS.

THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY; FUNCTIONS.
The General Assembly is seen as one of the chief organ of the United Nations organization. It could be recall that the united nations was conceive as the answer to a world torn by license and anarchy and ravaged by the excess of aggressive, self-centered national states. Almost from its inception, the United Nations was transformed into an arena of power jostling, and the lesser states were not long in using the world body for their own largely exclusive pursuits. The UN conference on international organization (UNCIO) opened in San Francisco on April 25th, 1945, with forty-six nations represented. Four additional delegations representing Argentina, Denmark, Byelorussia, and Ukraine were subsequently admitted to participate in drafting the charter. The fifty nations represented, plus Poland, became the original members of the United Nations. The UN charter was signed on June 26th, 1945, the delegates of fifty-one nations. After signing the UN charter, the fifty-one signatory states undertook it ratification through their respective constitutional processes.
On August 8, 1945, present Truman ratified the charter of the United Nations and the stature of the international court of justice, which was annexed to it. The nation s came into being on October 24, 1945, which has since been established as United Nations day. On January 10, 1946, with the opening of the first general assembly, the United Nations began its work.
The General Assembly:
Central to the sprawling UN organization, resembling some what the British prototype parliament at west minister in its unifying role, the general assembly functions as the main focus for most UN activities. “Global parliament”, “town meeting of the world”, “sun of the UN solar system” –these and other catch phrases are used to sum up, or perhaps somewhat inaccurately, the general assembly’s widely diffused activities and diverse roles. The general assembly comprises of all UN members which currently stands at 192. Unlike the Security Council, which pays homage to the elitism of great power politics, the assembly effuses the democratic ethos of egalitarianism, parliamentary, or representative government, and majority decision making.
Under the General Assembly there are numerous specialized organs which include main committees, other seasonal committees, standing committees and ad hoc bodies, and her subsidiary organs.

ASSEMBLY FUNCTIONS:
Against a backdrop of politics and diplomacy, the general assembly carries out its various roles and diverse activities, some assigned by the charter and others assumed by the assembly. Some of this roles or functions can be highlighted below…..
1. The general assembly approves the budget of the U.N.O
2. It discusses matters within the scope of the charter or relating to the functions of the organ set up by the charter.
3. It approves the appointment of judges of the international court of justice at The Hague.
4. It approves the appointment of the secretary general.
5. It is empowered to consider the general principles of co-operation in the maintenance of international peace and security.
6. It elects the ten non-members of the Security Council
7. The assembly controls the finance of the UNO
8. It has the power to suspend or expel any erring members- state
9. It has the power to change or amend the charter of the organization.
10. It admits new members to the organization.
11. It considers questions relating to weapons of war and how to disallow nations from using deadly weapons.
12. It elects the non-permanent members of the trusteeship council and the economic and social council.
13. It coordinates and supervises the works of the councils of the UN such as the trusteeship council and others.
14. The assembly receives and considers reports from all other organs of the UN including specialized agencies.
15. It adopts resolutions on fundamental world issues especially on issues on fundamental human rights.
16. The assembly studies and makes recommendations concerning the development and codification of international laws.
17. When a veto is cast by any of the permanent members, the assembly takes up the matter and makes recommendations.

SUCCESS: SIX KEYS TOWARDS IT.

HOW TO ACHIEVE SUCCESS: SIX KEYS TOWARDS IT.
Real success, then, must be a measure of something more substantial than secular careers and the cost of one’s house, car, or watch. Should it not rather reflect what a person is as a whole, including the principles he lives by and the purpose he has in life. Who can point the way to real success and the steps in achieving it – not success in a secular sense but success as a person.
True success is the achievement of the very best way of life, one that results from the application of God’s standards and that harmoninizes with his purpose for us.
Thus in achieving success in life, the following six keys should be applied:
1. KEEP MONEY IN ITS PLACE;
Note that the issue is not money itself-which we all need to care for ourselves and families-but the love of money. In reality, that love makes money one’s master, or god.
2. CULTIVATE A GENEROUS DISPOSITION:
While occasional giving can produce moments of happiness, a generous disposition can engender a state of happiness. Off course, generosity can be expressed in many ways. One of the best ways, and often appreciated, is giving of oneself.
3. FORGIVE FREELY:
Nowadays, forgiveness is often thrust aside; people prefer getting even over showing mercy. The result? Insult triggers insult, and violence begets violence. Learn to forgive others easily and freely and success is sure to come your way.
4. COMPLY WITH GOD’S STANDARDS:
On the positive side, those who comply with God’s standards foster wholesome, secure relationships, as well as self respect and inner peace. To put it simply, God’s standards are good for us- physically, mentally, and emotionally. Among other things they shield us from such harmful practices as drug abuse, drunkenness, sexual misconduct, and viewing pornography.
5. SHOW UNSELFISH LOVE:
The form of love mentioned here is not the sexual kind, which, of course, has its place. Rather, it is a richer, more lasting love governed by godly principles. Moreover, it is not passive, in the sense of receiving it, but active, in the sense of showing it. Such is up building. Moreover, it helps us to be successful in our relationship with others, especially family members.
6. BE CONSCIOUS OF YOUR SPIRITUAL NEED:
Unlike animals, humans have the capacity to appreciate spiritual things. Hence, we ask such questions as, what is the purpose of life. Is there a creator? What happens to us when we die? What does the future holds?
We should be aware of our innermost desires and peace which amounts to being spiritual conscious.

HOW TO FIND A JOB AND KEEP IT

HOW TO FIND A JOB AND KEEP IT

In many lands the search for unemployment presents serious obstacles. For examples, each year a tidal wave of high-school and college graduates floods the job market. In addition, having a degree or specialized training is no guarantee that one will find work in a chosen profession. Thus it is now quite common for people to change jobs several times during their working life. Some even have to change careers entirely.
If you find yourself unemployed, what can you do to improve your chances of finding work? And once you find a job, what can you do to keep it?
Who obtain the best job? Is it always the most qualified applicant? “No,” says valentine, an employment consultant. “The job often goes to the most effective job seeker.” What can you do to become a more effective job seeker? These are five keys to finding a job.

1. Be organized.
To be able to get a good job, one needs to be highly organized and disciplined. Set out your daily target and plan your strategies accurately. “it is crucial that you establish your own workday schedule so that you start your day knowing what is to be done,” suggests the book get a job in 30 days or less.
2. Access the hidden job market.
The fisherman with the largest net is the one with the most likely to catch fish. So, too, your knowing how to increase the size of your “net” will improve your chances of landing a job. If you are looking for a job only by responding to newspaper or internet advertisements, then the majority of the available jobs may be slipping past your net. A good number of jobs are never advertised! Talk to friends and people you know about your unemployed situation.
3. Be adaptable.
To increase your chances of finding a good job, you must be adaptable. Being adaptable may mean overcoming prejudice against certain types of work
4. Produce an effective resume.
For those applying for executive positions, compiling and distributing a professional resume is a must. But no matter what job you seek, a well-prepared resume can be a great asset. “a resume tells potential employer not only who you are but also what you have accomplished and why they need you,”
How do you compile a resume? Provide your full name, address, phone number, and e-mail address. State your objectives. List the education you have received, highlighting any training and skill that relate to the job you are seeking. Provide details of previous work experience. Include not only what you did but also examples of the goals you reached and the benefits you brought to your previous employers. Also highlight aspects of your previous employment that qualify you for the job you are currently seeking. Include personal information that describes your qualities, interest, and hobbies. Because companies needs differ, you may have to adjust your resume for each application.
5. Prepare well for interviews.
It is important you prepare well for your interviews and the first step in achieving this feat is by arriving at the interview site earlier enough.

KEEPING THE JOB YOU FOUND. . .
Once you have secured that dream job, it’s necessary you apply certain steps in order to keep it. They can be outline below. So apply them, fulfill your career and live life the fullest.
A. communicate freely
B. work well with others
C. be honest
D. be realistic

PARENTING: SEVEN STEPS TO BETTER GUIDANCE

PARENTING: SEVEN STEPS TO BETTER GUIDANCE

Certainly, raising a child is one of the most taxing yet fulfilling, and frustrating yet rewarding, tasks any human can attempt. As one father said, “you only get one shot at raising your child.” Given the enormous influence parents have on the health and happiness of their children, you may feel a strong need for trustworthy advice on how to be a better parent. The following step should help parents, especially newborn parents into raising godly children. These steps include:
1. SEEK GOOD ADVICE:
The first time that parents hold a newborn child in their arms, they may be buffeted by conflicting emotions. So it’s imperative to seek advice of the one person who knows most about how to raise children – the creator of human life, Jesus Christ. His word, the bible, contains both direct advice and practical examples that can help you become a better parent. “I will give advice with my eye upon you,” he promises. – psalm 32.8
2. CREATE A LOVING HOME:
Children need love and wither it. In the 1950s, anthropologist M.F.Ashley Montague wrote: “what the human organism requires most forts its development is a nutriment of love; the source of virtually all health is in the experience of love, especially within the first six years of life.” Modern researchers echo Montagu’s conclusion that “children suffer serious crippling effects when exposed to an inadequate diet of love.” Love . . . is a perfect bond of union – Colossians 3: 14
3. EXERCISE YOUR AUTHORITY:
Do not worry that you will alienate your children or crush their spirit if you exercise your authority. Studies show that “children brought up by loving but authoritative parents – those who are supportive of their children yet maintain firm limits – excel academically, develop better social skills, feel good about themselves, and are happier overall than kids whose parents are either too lenient or excessively harsh,” says parent magazine. “Discipline your children, and . . . they will give delight to your heart.” –proverb 29:17
4. DEFINE FAMILY RULES AND ENFORCE THEM PROMPTLY:
Defining reasonable limits for your children’s behavior and enforcing those limits takes time, efforts, and perseverance. And children seem to have a natural urge to test any such boundaries. The fact is, “says Ronald Simons, a sociologist at the University of Georgia, “kids fare better with clear rules and firm consequences. Without structure, children become self absorbed, selfish, and unhappy – and they make everyone around them miserable too.” God’s word simply states: “if you love your children, you will correct them.” – Proverb 13:24
5. ESTABLISH AND MAINTAIN ROUTINES:
Routines are a major part of adult life. Work, worship, and even recreation usually follow set routines. Establishing and maintaining routines requires self – discipline and determination to overcome a child’s initial resistance to conforming to the routines. Parent handicap their children if they do not teach them to restructure their time and to stick to a schedule. On the other hand, “studies show that having rules and structures makes a child feel safe and secure and teaches self control and self-reliance,” says Dr. Laurence Steinberg, a professor of psychology. “Let all things take place decently and by arrangement.” – 1 Corinthians 14:40
6. ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR CHILD’S FEELINGS:
Apply the bible’s advice to be swift about hearing, slow about speaking, slow about wrath. Children want and need the most important people in their lives –their parents – to know how they feel. If parents habitually contradict their children when such feelings are expressed, the children will be less likely to open up to them and may even start to doubt their ability to feel and think for themselves. “When anyone is replying to a matter before he hears it that is foolishness on his part.” –provide 18:13
7. TEACH BY EXAMPLE:
Strive to be good- not perfect – examples. And use your occasional poor behavior to teach a positive lesson. Word often impart only information, but actions, they say teaches. For example, parents may tell their children to be respectful and speak the truth. However, if these same parents scream at each other or at their children and tell lies to excuse themselves from inconvenient obligations, they teach that this is how adults should behave. Copying parents is “one of the most powerful ways that children learn,” says author Dr. Sal severe. “Do you . . . the one that teaching someone else, not teach yourself?” – Romans 2: 21
